NFL Week 1 2022: A case for each favorite
We’ve finally reached Week 1 of the new 2022 NFL season, and it’s time to explore how each favorite can win and cover to start the year.
Buffalo Bills (-2.5) at Los Angeles Rams
Buffalo is the Super Bowl favorite for a reason. The roster is loaded on offense and defense, while the Rams have lost key players this offseason, including edge rusher Von Miler, who now resides in Buffalo.
New Orleans Saints (-5.5) at Atlanta Falcons
Have you seen Atlanta’s roster? New Orleans isn’t perfect, but the Saints are better in every phase.
San Francisco 49ers (-7) at Chicago Bears
The Bears are in a full-on rebuild, and while the Niners are trying out a new quarterback in Trey Lance, they should handle an overwhelmed Chicago group.
Pittsburgh Steelers at Cincinnati Bengals (-6.5)
The Bengals might have the league’s best weapons. Pittsburgh is excellent defensively, but Mitch Trubisky isn’t keeping it close with Joe Burrow.
Philadelphia Eagles (-4) at Detroit Lions
Philadelphia had the best offseason of any team in football. The Lions are improving, but they don’t have a secondary which can deal with the Eagles.

New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins (-3)
The Patriots are quietly one of the least-talented teams in football, while the Dolphins added a new head coach and Tyreek Hill. Miami’s offense could be terrific if (big if) Tua Tagovailoa steps up.
Baltimore Ravens (-7) at New York Jets
It’s the Ravens, who hammer bad teams, taking on the Joe Flacco-led Jets. Enough said.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Washington Commanders (-3)
Jacksonville is much-improved, but should take time to gel. The Commanders are at home, with what appears to be a very solid defense.
Cleveland Browns at Carolina Panthers (-2.5)
Baker Mayfield will want blood.
Indianapolis Colts (-8) at Houston Texans
The Texans remain in a rebuild, while the Colts upgraded under center with Matt Ryan. Indy is better on both sides of the ball.
New York Giants at Tennessee Titans (-5.5)
The Giants are beat up, on the road, and talentless at a litany of positions. Tennessee should roll with ease.

Green Bay Packers (-1.5) at Minnesota Vikings
Aaron Rodgers is out to prove a point, and he starts in Minnesota against a bad defense.
Kansas City Chiefs (-4.5) at Arizona Cardinals
Many have downgraded Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. That’s bad news for the overmatched Cards.
Las Vegas Raiders at Los Angeles Chargers (-3)
The Raiders have a ton of offensive firepower, but the defense is a mess sans the edge rushers. Justin Herbert should feast.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-1.5) at Dallas Cowboys
Tom Brady vs. Mike McCarthy.
Denver Broncos (-6.5) at Seattle Seahawks
It’s time to ride with Russell Wilson.
